Swiss citizens require a visa to enter Mongolia for tourism, business, or family visits. Mongolia does not currently offer visa-free access for Switzerland, but Swiss travelers can obtain a tourist visa either from Mongolian embassies/consulates or through the country’s eVisa system. Tourist visas are typically issued for 30 days and can be extended once inside Mongolia.

Visa process and timing:
Swiss travelers can apply for a Mongolian visa in two main ways:

eVisa system – Swiss citizens can apply online through the official Mongolian eVisa portal for tourism or business travel. The application requires uploading a passport copy, photo, and travel details. Approval is usually given within a few business days.
Embassy or consulate application – Travelers can submit their application directly at a Mongolian embassy or consulate. Processing usually takes about 4–7 working days.

On arrival, travelers must present their passport, visa approval, return ticket, and proof of accommodation. Tourist visas are generally valid for 30 days, with single- or multiple-entry options available.

Entry requirements for Swiss citizens include:

A Swiss passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay
Approved Mongolian visa (eVisa or embassy-issued)
Return or onward travel ticket
Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host invitation)
Sufficient funds for the trip

Health and insurance requirements:
No mandatory vaccinations are required for entry from Switzerland. However, vaccinations for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and typhoid are recommended. Travelers should also consider rabies vaccination due to the prevalence of stray dogs in rural areas. Comprehensive travel insurance covering medical care and evacuation is highly recommended, as healthcare facilities outside Ulaanbaatar can be very limited.

Customs and border rules:
Travelers may bring personal goods for private use duty-free. Import restrictions apply to weapons, narcotics, and certain cultural artifacts. Export of antiques, fossils, or rare minerals without authorization is prohibited. Currency amounts above US $10,000 must be declared.

Stay limits and extensions:
Tourist visas typically allow a 30-day stay. Extensions can be requested at the Mongolian Immigration Agency in Ulaanbaatar, usually in 30-day increments. For work, study, or residence, special permits are required and must be arranged before entering the country.
